World War I Weekend at Bakers Island Light

Join Essex Heritage and on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 for a World War I Living History Weekend. nWith the outbreak of World War I, concerns were raised by the threat of German U-Boats operating in the waters off the coast of the United States. Forts and islands all along the coast were manned to keep a lookout for enemy activity and Bakers Island was no exception, it was occupied by a Naval Militia unit for the duration of the war. nInterpretation will include reenactors with the uniforms, arms and equipment of the soldiers and sailors who guarded our coast during World War I, with a period camp and signal post recreating a coastal patrol of 1918. nSpace is limited for this event.
