Fish weirs have been constructed by the Indigenous Massachusett people since time immemorial. Join members of the Massachusett Tribe to learn the history and participate in the renewal of this tradition in Salem Harbor. Thomas Green, a member of the Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag, will give a public presentation “The Massachusett Tribe in Salem: Weaving Indigenous History and Practice”, on Monday September 18th at 6pm at NPS Visitor Center, in Salem. This public lecture on Sept 18th will be followed by two opportunities to volunteer with this effort on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7pm. Volunteers will visit the fish weir location and help dismantle it (following the outgoing tide).
