Nancy MacLean Lecture

Award winning author Nancy MacLean will speak at Salem State University on March 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., as part of Public History Speaker Series. MacLean, the author of “Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America,” which Booklist calls “perhaps the best explanation to date of the roots of the political divide that threatens to irrevocably alter American government.” She is the William H. Chafe Professor of History and Public Policy at Duke University, and a finalist for the National Book Award in Nonfiction. She will share critics’ responses to her book and how they have shaped her thinking on the state of American democracy. The lecture, which is free, is presented by Salem State’s history department and Unchain Democracy, a local grassroots organization, Voices Against Injustice, the School of Graduate Studies, and the Center for Research and Creative Activities.
