“With police brutality and political misconduct constantly in the headlines as serious areas of concern for American citizens, many rappers are using their platforms to make statements on problems that are impacting their communities. Not every artist is equipped to speak on these issues in a creatively engaging fashion. But out of the wide range of talented musicians residing in Boston, STL GLD (comprised of emcee Moe Pope and producer The Arcitype) are perhaps the most apt to tackle such sensitive and substantial subject matter.“ — Eric Bernsen, BasedBoston, April 12, 2017
Join Trevor Smith, Associate Director – Multisensory Experience, Curator of the Present Tense, and Kerry Schneider, GenPEM and Development Communications Officer, for this special introduction to Moe Pope — an Indie hip-hop artist, songwriter and contemporary painter originally from Boston. As a lyricist, Pope chronicles the stories of his life and his community by touching upon subjects like fatherhood, relationships and the human condition.
As MC of the hip-hop group STL GLD, Moe Pope was named Live Artist of the Year at the 2018 Boston Music Awards, and STL GLD was named Boston’s Best Band by Improper Bostonian the same year. STL GLD is set to release their fourth album together in Fall 2020. His paintings were behind DeMane Davis during the last GenPEM virtual Q&A event, and she nominated him for the next conversation.
