Every year since 1985, the unlikely combination of cowboys and poetry come together during the American National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada. Through the written word, they contend with their unique way-of-life as they confront myths, environmental threats and change.

COWBOY POETS celebrates the modern West and the process of our collective need to create, gather, and share. In an impressionistic look at the modern West, Scottish filmmaker Mike Day offers an intimate look at these modern-day cowboys who record their unique way of life in poems and songs and who, more than ever, have to ask themselves where their place is in today’s world. The film showcases their rough and ready everyday life and their creative work against a backdrop of breath-taking nature shots to create a true piece of nostalgic “Americana.”
