The 2022 Salem Award for Human Rights and Social Justice will be presented to investigative journalist and author Jerry Mitchell.
As a reporter for the Clarion-Ledger, Mitchell spent three decades investigating civil rights cases that had gone cold. In 2018, he founded the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting, the mission of which is “to improve lives, bring reform, expose injustices, give a voice to the voiceless, shine the spotlight on fraud, corruption and wrongdoing, and highlight the unseen champions of what is right.” Mr. Mitchell is the author of Race Against Time: A Reporter Reopens the Unsolved Murder Cases of the Civil Rights Era, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, a MacArthur “genius”, and the recipient of more than 20 national awards.
We are honored to be presenting Jerry Mitchell with this year’s Salem Award for Human Rights and Social Justice.
Join us as we REMEMBER the lessons and legacy of the Salem Witch Trials and HONOR champions of social justice so that we will be inspired to ACT.
