DESCRIPTION:Throughout history Wolves have been the personification of wonder and power. They represent the untamed spirit and unconquered land. With that reputation they have also been condemned as evil incarnate and\, once murdered\, a symbol of man’s brutal conquest of nature. \nWith this exhibition we aim to explore and promote the majesty of these beautiful creatures whose alluring energy continues to inspire. \nAs a commitment to the preservation of these important animals\, this exhibition is in direct support of Wolf Hollow Conversation and Education Center in Ipswich\, MA\, with our exhibition sales proceeds being donated to Wolf Hollow. Zed Soffron\, Direct of Wolf Hollow\, will also be our juror.

SUMMARY:The Great Animal Orchestra: Bernie Krause and United Visual Artists
DESCRIPTION:The Peabody Essex Museum and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain are proud to present the North American premiere of The Great Animal Orchestra. \nStep into an immersive audio-visual experience that celebrates our planet’s rich biodiversity. Over the course of nearly fifty years\, Bernie Krause collected more than 5\,000 hours of recordings of natural environments\, including at least 15\,000 terrestrial and marine species from around the world. \nTrained as a musician\, Krause found animal vocalizations in the natural world to be akin to musical harmony and orchestral organization. Krause’s soundscapes reveal that within any ecosystem\, each species has its own acoustic niche and human activities are increasingly silencing these great animal orchestras. United Visual Artists (UVA) worked with Krause to visualize these recordings as animated spectrograms\, which immerse us in the heart of these wild soundscapes. This unique installation makes a plea for preserving the wondrous diversity of the animal world. \nThe Great Animal Orchestra\, a collaboration between Bernie Krause and United Visual Artists\, ws commissioned in 2016 by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain\, and is now part of its permanent collection. The exhibition is organized by the Peabody Essex Museum and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. \nThe exhibition is presented as part of PEM’s Climate + Environment Initiative and is made possible by a generous gift from the Creighton family and the Albert M. Creighton Jr. Fund for Art and Nature. Additional support was provided by Peter and Sandra Lawrence and individuals who support the Exhibition Incubation Fund: Jennifer and Andrew Borggaard\, James B. and Mary Lou Hawkes\, Kate and Ford O’Neil\, and Henry and Callie Brauer. We also recognize the generosity of the East India Marine Associates of the Peabody Essex Museum.

SUMMARY:In Memory Of Ann Dolliver
DESCRIPTION:Ann Dolliver\, the daughter of Salem Town’s elder minister\, John Higginson\, lived with her three children on the land where the Salem Witch Museum stands today. Despite the fact that Ann was the daughter of a respected New England reverend and sister of a Salem magistrate\, she was accused of witchcraft and arrested in June of 1692. Abandoned by her husband\, left with three children\, forced to move home with her father and step-mother in her 40s\, she was described by her father as “melancholy” and “crazed in her understanding.” What little information is known about Ann Dolliver paints the picture of a sad and tragic life.\n\nJoin us for Salem’s Women’s History Day\, as our Education Department discusses the life of this fascinating woman\, her connection to the Salem witch trials\, and women’s roles and challenges in the seventeenth-century.\n\nIf you are unable to attend live\, this event will also be recorded and shared on our YouTube page for future accessibility.

SUMMARY:“The Women of The House of the Seven Gables and their Community”
DESCRIPTION:March is National Women’s History Month and we are excited to be participating in Salem Women’s History day on March 27. The House of the Seven Gables board member Robin Woodman is presenting a lecture entitled “The Women of The House of the Seven Gables and their Community.” Woodman’s lecture will focus on the Turner women\, who occupied the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion from 1668 until 1782 when the house was purchased by Captain Samuel Ingersoll. She will also touch on the Ingersoll women and The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association founder Caroline Emmerton. All of these women played a role in the Salem community and witnessed many important moments in history. \n>>CLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR THE LECTURE<< \nRobin Woodman is a local historian who grew up on Forrester St in Salem\, attending afterschool programs at The Gables Settlement Association. After attending Lesley University for an undergraduate History degree and Harvard University to obtain her masters\, Robin returned to the Salem area as an adult\, with a drive to give back to the community

DESCRIPTION:Join the Witches of Traditionalist Covens of New England (TCONE) for our Spring Equinox celebration. \nThe Spring Equinox is one of the Witches’ Eight Sabbats. At the Spring Equinox we celebrate the balance of darkness and light\, for on this day the night and day are in equal parts. It is a day to honor the maturing God who has just been birthed at Yule and to welcome the Goddess back from her wintery sleep. Spring Equinox ritual will be led by a Minoan Brotherhood grove and a Minoan Sisterhood group\, located here on the North Shore of Massachusetts.

SUMMARY:Community Conversations: Understanding Racism and the Journey of the Race Equity Task Force
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to be hosting a series of Community Conversations centered around racial equity. These events are designed to engage community members in thoughtful and respectful conversation facilitated by Shawn Newton\, a member of the City of Salem Race Equity Task Force. This task force was created by Mayor Kimberly Driscol in June 2020 to assess policies\, services\, and community systems in Salem and address systematic racial disparity. The results of this survey were made available to the public in July 2021\, along with their final report.\n\n“Community Conversations: Understanding Racism and the Journey of the Race Equity Task Force” is designed to be an interactive dialogue with and between community attendees and the presenter. The overarching goal is to enhance awareness of the phenomenon of racism and the methods and techniques to undo it. The first two sessions will be a deep dive on understanding and dismantling racism\, while the remaining sessions will focus on the journey of the City of Salem Race Equity Task Force.\n\nThese events are free to the public\, and while we hope you are able to join us each month\, it is not necessary to attend every session.\n\nMonday\, March 28\, 2022: The Starting Point (Part 1)\nPrior to starting the journey of examining race equity in the City of Salem\, it was important for the Race Equity Task Force to come to an understanding of what racism is. This month’s interactive dialogue is designed to be part one of a two-part learning experience of understanding the phenomenon of racism and strategies to address it.
