While this put Hammond at odds with the rest of the inhabitants of the castle – including his wife Irene – he concluded that working throughout the night and sleeping during the day positively impacted his work as an inventor.\n\nWith this in mind\, “Candlelight tours” are offered Thursday evenings in August and September and offer you the chance to see the building as Hammond so often did; after dark. During these approximately 55-minute fully-guided tours\, you will be escorted throughout many of the Museum’s galleries\, including rooms in the Hammond residence which are not usually a part of the daytime guided experience. The Candlelit tour places an emphasis on the Castle’s role as John and Irene Hammond’s private home\, in addition to covering more general architectural and historical details of the building and collection. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see the Castle through Hammond’s eyes! \nCarry-In/Carry-Out Picnics: Guests may enjoy a carry-in/carry-out picnic on our seaside lawn before their tour on Thursday evenings in August! While most of these wild stories can be dismissed as pure fiction\, the building occupies a fascinating place within the broader historical context of the development of spiritualist and spiritualist-adjacent fields in American culture. The spiritualist movement enthralled America’s upper and middle classes during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Both John Hays Hammond Jr. and his wife\, Irene\, were fascinated with wide-ranging topics including Astrology\, Divination\, Numerology\, Extrasensory Perception (ESP)\, and Mediumship. \nEvery Thursday evening in August\, September\, and October (and even a couple of Wednesday nights in October too) we offer Spiritualism Tours\, This specialty tour explores the history of American spiritualism\, with a particular focus on contextualizing the movement within broader contemporary cultural trends and discussing the Hammonds’ own complicated engagements with these cultural phenomena. From John Hays Hammond Jr.’s attempts to communicate with supernatural entities using a Faraday Cage\, to Irene Hammond’s work on a comprehensive survey of astrological signs; over the course of this approximately 55-minute fully-guided tour\, the dramatic gothic-inspired architecture of the building and night-time atmosphere will set the stage for a fun and informative seasonal experience unlike any other! \nCarry-In/Carry-Out Picnics: Guests may enjoy a carry-in/carry-out picnic on our seaside lawn before their tour on Thursday evenings in August! SUMMARY:Bubbles & Books Storytime at Hammond Castle Museum
DESCRIPTION:$10 adults\, Kids 12 and under are $5. \nJoin us every Wednesday morning in July & August for Bubbles and Books on our seaside lawn. Fairytales do come true at castles by the sea!\n\nDoors open at 10 am. Stories start at 10:15 am. Feel free to bring a blanket for your little one to cuddle with while we enjoy Storytime on the ocean-facing lawn. Don’t forget the sunscreen! We’ll have thousands of bubbles\, coloring\, snacks and music too! We encourage little ones to dress up in their favorite crown\, gown or anything else that makes them happy!\n\nThis ticket grants you access to the Bubbles & Books program which will be held on the ocean-facing lawn. If you wish to tour the museum at the conclusion of this program\, ticket holders may purchase Self-Guided Tour tickets in the Museum Shop at a 20% discount. All proceeds from this program will support the restoration and preservation of the museum.
