Founder and Coordinator of the digital interview archive “How a Poem Happens\,” as well as the Veterans Writing Workshop of Richmond\, Indiana. \nJavier Zamora was born in El Salvador and migrated to the United States in 1999 when he was nine—travelling unaccompanied 4\,000 miles\, across multiple borders\, from El Salvador to the US to be reunited with his parents. Unaccompanied (Copper Canyon Press\, 2017)\, his first poetry collection\, explores how immigration and civil war have impacted his life and family. This collection won the 2018 North California Book Award\, the 2018 Firecracker Award\, and was a finalist for the 2019 Kate Tufts Discovery Award. DESCRIPTION:The largest all-documentary film festival in Massachusetts returns to Salem for its 13th season. For seven days\, attendees have the opportunity to view more than 30 films from around the world and engage with visiting filmmakers at screenings\, parties\, and forums. Each year\, Salem Film Fest also showcases a variety of local musicians and bands. \nEnjoy these short sets while you wait for the next film. Screenings will be at CinemaSalem\, the National Park Service Visitor Center\, Peabody Essex Museum’s Morse Theater along with additional screening venues in nearby Beverly and Peabody. Come for a day or stay the weekend. DESCRIPTION:Join Essex Heritage for a five-part series exploring the principles behind the design and construction of traditional wooden boats.
