The Brotherhood is dedicated to the presentation and practice of historical European martial arts and other facets of medieval life. Their armored fight demonstrations are high energy and entertaining. The Penniless Jacks is a high-energy folk-rock band that focuses on livening up traditional “tavern” music. Shakespeare Approves will keep the kids giggling with his family-friendly antics and improvisational banter. \nProgram:\nDoors open at 10:00 am. \nSession 1- 10:30 am – 12:30 pm\nPenniless Jacks: 10:30 am -11 am\nShakespeare Approves: 11:00 – 11:30\nBrotherhood of the Arrow & Sword: 11:30 – 12:30 pm. \nSession 2-1:00 pm – 3:30 pm.\nPenniless Jacks: 1:30 pm -2 pm\nShakespeare Approves: 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm\nBrotherhood of the Arrow & Sword: 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm. \nNo Guided Tours are scheduled for this day\, allowing our guests the freedom to explore the Museum at their own pace. Admittance into the Museum will conclude at 3:15pm. Those holding Session 2 tickets are encouraged to arrive ahead of time to fully immerse themselves in the Museum’s interior. Guests are encouraged to plan 60 minutes to explore the Museum. In the event of inclement weather\, the event will be rescheduled for the following Saturday\, October 14th. All reservations will be honored at the scheduled session time. \nPlease note: On-site parking will only be for those with limited mobility\, but we encourage you to keep in mind that there are many stairs leading down to the Museum\, the interior of the Museum\, and out to the seaside lawn. General parking for this event will not be provided on the premises. Off-site parking at Stage Fort Park (24 Hough Ave\, Gloucester) will be required. Two free “Yellow School Bus” shuttles will run continuously from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. between the Park and the Museum.

This is a family-friendly event. It is not like a haunted house. Nothing will jump out at you. The spookiest part of the event is that it is set in the dark. You have the option to enter the houses where stories are being told. \nWhat are my parking options at the event? \nParking is Free at Forest River Park. There is a large parking lot at Forest River Park. \nWhat can/can’t I bring to the event? \nDogs are not allowed unless you require a service dog. You can bring flashlights to assist you in the dark. There is some light\, but lighting is limited. Alcohol is not permitted in the Village. \nWhere can I contact the organizer with any questions? \nYou can contact Heather Mercier at hmercier@salemk12.org. \nIs my ticket transferrable? \nSorry. Tickets not transferable or refundable. \nCan you purchase tickets at the door? \nYes. Tickets may be purchased at the door if they are still available the night of the event. Tickets are sold online only. When the tickets sell-out\, they are gone. \nIs the venue handicap accessible? \nYes\, to see the pumpkins\, however\, the terrain is a bit bumpy. The houses where the stories are told are unfortunately not handicap accessible. \nHow long does it take to complete the event? \nThe event is divided into four 45-minute intervals. 6:30-7:15pm\, 7:15-8:00pm\, 8:00-8:45pm and 8:45-9:30pm.  You choose the best 45 minute viewing time for you and your party. Each ticket costs $13.00. Children 3 and under are FREE.  We ask that patrons be cooperative and mindful of the next group that will be viewing the event.

While most of these wild stories can be dismissed as pure fiction\, the building occupies a fascinating place within the broader historical context of the development of spiritualist and spiritualist-adjacent fields in American culture. The spiritualist movement enthralled America’s upper and middle classes during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Both John Hays Hammond Jr. and his wife\, Irene\, were fascinated with wide-ranging topics including Astrology\, Divination\, Numerology\, Extrasensory Perception (ESP)\, and Mediumship.\n\nEvery Thursday evening in August\, September and October (and even a couple of Wednesday nights in October too) we offer Spiritualism Tours.  This specialty tour explores the history of American spiritualism\, with a particular focus on contextualizing the movement within broader contemporary cultural trends and discussing the Hammonds’ own complicated engagements with these cultural phenomena. From John Hays Hammond Jr.’s attempts to communicate with supernatural entities using a Faraday Cage\, to Irene Hammond’s work on a comprehensive survey of astrological signs; over the course of this approximately 55-minute fully-guided tour\, the dramatic gothic-inspired architecture of the building and night-time atmosphere will set the stage for a fun and informative seasonal experience unlike any other!\n\nMember benefits apply to Spiritualism Tour tickets.
