DESCRIPTION:Learn about the Yin Yu Tang home as well as daily life and celebrations in rural China through this series of documentary shorts. \n\n“One Day in Ping Wei”\nFollow a little girl as she goes about her day in a town in Anhui Province\, the home region of Yin Yu Tang\, and learn about life in rural China through her eyes. (Pearl River Productions. Mandarin and English\, with subtitles. Runtime: 30 mins.)\n“Yin Yu Tang: A Chinese Home”\nExperience the journey of this 200-year old Chinese house as it is dismantled in its village\, shipped to America and re-erected at the Peabody Essex Museum. (Runtime: about 17 minutes.)\n“Guo Nian: Passage into a New Year” \nLunar New Year festivities in China often last two weeks and entail days of preparation. This film documents contemporary celebrations in the Huizhou region (the original home of Yin Yu Tang) and records reminiscences of New Years past. (Runtime: about 17 minutes.)\n“Guomen: A Village Wedding”\nA young woman and her family prepare for her wedding in a village near Huang Cun\, the original home of Yin Yu Tang. In the groom’s household\, they are readying the new couple’s bedroom and a grand wedding feast. The bride\, her father\, and others describe the traditional rituals and emotional stress\, while elders – some of them former residents of Yin Yu Tang – recall their own weddings. (Runtime: about 17 minutes.)\n\nTraditional Chinese Paper Cutting with Zhonghe (Elena) Li \n1 pm and 2 pm | Create Space Studios\nSame-day tickets are required for this timed workshop; capacity is limited. Tickets are available at the Information desk. \nSpring has arrived! Frogs and ducks are appearing in neighborhood ponds. SUMMARY:SOMETHING ROTTEN at Salem State University
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the “90’s” – the 1590’s – when a leather-clad wordsmith with swiveling hips is rocking London: Shakespeare! His works are loved by all except the Bottom brothers\, Nick and Nigel. They are desperate to write a hit play and find their fame and fortune\, while also staying ahead of their money lenders. Filled with fabulous musical numbers and a hilarious plot line\, this irresistible ode to musicals is a dose of pure Broadway fun! \nWritten by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell\nMusic and Lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick\nConceived by Karey Kirkpatrick and Wayne Kirkpatrick \nFriday\, April 19\, is SALEM NIGHT. SUMMARY:Minimalism at Salem Arts Association
DESCRIPTION:A form of abstract art that came about in the 1950’s in the US and spread worldwide\, minimalism was best described as art with no subtext or\, “What you see is what you get.”  Salem Arts Association invited our artist members to present the essence of their expression\, to strip down their creative process to concepts that represent a world of simplicity where less is more\, and to explore and play with the idea that art doesn’t necessarily have to represent a deep thought or evoke emotion – sometimes\, it can just… be.
