SUMMARY:SUBTERRANEAN
DESCRIPTION:In a remarkable year\, two gritty teams of hobbyist cavers are poised to break records for the longest and deepest caves in Canada. With few places on Earth left to discover\, caving may be the last remaining activity of true exploration. After discovering a flooded chamber kilometers underground\, Katie Graham becomes obsessed with returning to the Bisaro Anima cave in the Rockies to push the caving depth record. Rather than the expected thrill-seeking adrenalin junkies\, her dream team is made up of passionate amateurs. At the same time\, a passionate Vancouver Island team is attempting to link two tunnel systems to create the longest known cave in the country. \nFrom abyssal\, muddy crawls to heart-pounding\, vertical pits and underwater squeezes\, these are places where no person has been before. Against a stunning backdrop of natural rock formations\, SUBTERRANEAN digs into the oddly fascinating world of cavers to uncover a gripping story of bare emotions\, dangerous adventure\, and (if they’re lucky) record-setting discovery. \nWARNING: MAY TRIGGER CLAUSTROPHOBIA \nCo-presented by Woods Hole Film Festival. Sponsored by Cabot Wealth Management\, Ipswich Ale Brewery\, and Moody’s Home & Gifts. \nSalem Film Fest

DESCRIPTION:March is Women’s History Month\, and to celebrate we are offering our Women’s History Tour each Saturday of the month at 1:15 P.M.!\nFrom the Indigenous women who worked the land to our organization’s founder\, women have always been a part of the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion’s history\, but not always given the spotlight they deserve. Together they assemble and inspire a caravan of hundreds of people with disabilities\, battling cold and hunger on a 35-day\, 250-mile journey over the Andes to the Bolivian capital. SUMMARY:QUEENDOM
DESCRIPTION:Gena (she/her\, non-binary)\, a queer artist from a small town in Russia\, dresses in otherworldly costumes made from junk and tape\, and protests the government on the streets of Moscow. Born and raised on the harsh streets of Magadan\, a frigid outpost of the Soviet Gulag\, Gena is only 21. She stages radical performances in public that become a new form of art and activism. By doing that\, she wants to change people’s perception of beauty and queerness and bring attention to the harassment of the LGBTQ+ community. The performances – often dark\, strange\, evocative\, and queer at their core-are a manifestation of Gena’s subconscious. But they come at a price. \nCo-presented by Wicked Queer and GLOBEDOCS. SUMMARY:CITIZEN SLEUTH
DESCRIPTION:CITIZEN SLEUTH is an entertaining and insightful exploration of the true crime genre and the impact a powerful story can have on communities. In 2011\, 20-year-old Jaleayah Davis died in an incident that was ruled accidental\, yet featured some bizarre circumstances. Emily Nestor created the podcast Mile Marker 181 – the resting place of Davis’ car – to investigate the case. As her series progressed\, Nestor attracted millions of listeners\, captivated by stories of potential police corruption and contradictory accounts by the victim’s friends. But as Chris Kasick’s film highlights\, Nestor’s own investigation was less than watertight. And as facts emerged that sat uneasily next to Nestor’s assumptions\, the role of the truth appeared to become less essential to her. \nSponsored by Cabot Wealth Management\, The Feline Hospital\, and Modern Millie. \nSalem Film Fest

SUMMARY:THE MOTHER OF ALL LIES
DESCRIPTION:Young Moroccan filmmaker Asmae El Moudir wants to know why she only has one photograph from her childhood\, and why the girl in the picture isn’t even her. She decides to explore the past and its mysteries by creating a handmade replica of the Casablanca neighborhood where she grew up. There\, she begins to interrogate the tales her mother\, father and grandmother tell about their home and their country. Slowly\, she starts to unravel the layers of deception and intentional forgetting that have shaped her life. The truth is hard to face\, but in this sometimes surreal nonfiction film\, El Moudir begins to draw what is real to the surface. \nCo-presented by Bright Lights Cinema Series. Sponsored by ANYEYE Film Lab\, O’Neill’s of Salem\, Lulu’s Bakery and Pantry\, and Adriatic Restaurant and Bar. \n  \nSalem Film Fest

SUMMARY:STORY & PICTURES BY
DESCRIPTION:STORY & PICTURES BY takes audiences behind-the-scenes to meet the boundary pushers who create children’s picture books. The film follows Christian Robinson\, Yuyi Morales\, and Mac Barnett—the stars of the new “golden age” of kids lit—as they create experimental work that reflects the mysteries of childhood\, champions the marginalized\, and provides children with windows and mirrors\, even when the creators’ own lives are not fairy tales. \nThrough rare archival\, untapped insights\, and stop-motion paper animation\, we also come to understand why classics such as “Goodnight Moon\,” “Where the Wild Things Are\,” “The Very Hungry Caterpillar\,” “The Snowy Day\,” changed the art form and stand the test of time. \nCo-presented by the Boston International Kid’s Film Festival and Roxbury International Film Festival. Sponsored by Montserrat College of Art\, Salem Athenaeum\, Salem Five and Chris Cuddy Art. \nSalem Film Fest
