DESCRIPTION:The Salem Dance Ensemble spring concert features a broad array of original work by student choreographers\, faculty\, and guest artists. This concert will feature the premiere of a new work choreographed by spring choreographer-in-residence Shakia Johnson. \nJohnson has choreographed and directed more than 50 hip hop\, modern\, African and lyrical works that have been performed at Trenton Educational Dance Institute\, Rider University\, the Princeton School of Ballet and the Bates Dance Festival. She has performed for numerous hip hop events and has opened for concerts by Fat Joe\, Jadakiss\, 112\, Charlie Baltimore\, Kima from “Total” and Omarion. She has toured the U.S. and abroad dancing with Face Da Phlave Entertainment and Illstyle and Peace Productions. SUMMARY:The Life & Death of John Proctor\, 1692
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fascinating lecture given by Peabody Historical Society curator Kelly Daniell. In 1692\, John Proctor was 60 years old\, was a successful business man\, had sired seventeen children by three different wives\, and was outspoken about his feelings against the witchcraft hysteria. Now infamous as one of the primary characters in Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible\, this lecture provides an interesting window into the real life and untimely death of one of the most well-known figures of the Salem witch trials. \nKelly Daniell joined the Peabody Historical Society staff in early April of 2016. At the PHS\, she maintains the extensive decorative arts and research collections\, as well as eight historic buildings in the city of Peabody. She lectures regularly on three Salem witch trials families (who lived in modern day Peabody)\, including the Proctors\, Coreys\, and Feltons. \n$10 admission.

From 1799 to 1867\, when Salem was a premier American port and launching pad for international trade\, the East India Marine Society Museum was one of the most influential collecting institutions in the United States. The museum’s collection developed at a nexus of global exchange\, with donations of artwork\, objects and flora and fauna pouring in from distant ports of call. At a time when the country was filled with Barnumesque exhibitions\, visitors to this museum could circumnavigate the globe and gain an understanding of the world and their place within it.
