With that reputation they have also been condemned as evil incarnate and\, once murdered\, a symbol of man’s brutal conquest of nature. \nWith this exhibition we aim to explore and promote the majesty of these beautiful creatures whose alluring energy continues to inspire. \nAs a commitment to the preservation of these important animals\, this exhibition is in direct support of Wolf Hollow Conversation and Education Center in Ipswich\, MA\, with our exhibition sales proceeds being donated to Wolf Hollow. Zed Soffron\, Direct of Wolf Hollow\, will also be our juror.

DESCRIPTION:Each/Other: Marie Watt and Cannupa Hanska Luger features the work of Watt and Luger\, two leading Indigenous contemporary artists whose processes focus on collaborative artmaking\, community engagement\, materials\, and the land. Each/Other features 26 mixed media sculptures\, wall hangings and large-scale installation works by Watt (Seneca\, Scottish\, German) and Luger (Mandan\, Hidatsa\, Arikara\, Lakota and European)\, along with a new monumental artist-guided community artwork. Works on view in Each/Other will consist of materials including carved wood\, ceramic and fabric sculpture\, photography\, installation works with coconcertina and oil drums\, video-based interpretive elements and documentation pieces to show past performance works by the artists. Together\, Watt and Luger emphasize creativity as a boundless process\, and a catalyst for connection and building greater empathy and understanding between individuals\, neighbors\, communities\, and the world around us.

SUMMARY:“The Salem Witch Trials: Reckoning and Reclaiming” at the Peabody Essex Museum
DESCRIPTION:More than 300 years after the Salem witch trials\, artistic imaginations remain engaged by the personal tragedies and grave injustices of this historic crisis. In this exhibition\, learn more about factors that fueled the hysteria and individuals who rose to defend those unjustly accused and explore two creative responses by artists with ancestral links to the trials. Both projects directly speak to the historical trauma evident in the authentic 17th-century documents and objects on view and provide a powerful contemporary response.\nThe fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s Fall/Winter 2007 collection In Memory of Elizabeth How\, 1692 was based on research into his ancestor Elizabeth How\, one of the first women to be condemned and hanged as a witch in July 1692. McQueen’s work reclaims How’s power and memory from the false accusation that led to her unjust execution. He also mined historic symbols of witchcraft\, paganism\, religious persecution\, and magic as potent inspiration for his fashion design.\nPhotographer Frances F. Denny’s series Major Arcana: Portraits of Witches in America reclaims the meaning of the word “witch” from its historical use as a tool to silence and control women. Her portraits re-envision witchery by celebrating the spectrum of identities and spiritual practices found in today’s witch community.\nIn this exhibition\, a multitude of voices will share their personal histories and perspectives\, drawn from authentic documents\, artist statements\, and interviews.\nLearn more here.\nThe Salem Witch Trials: Reckoning and Reclaiming is organized by the Peabody Essex Museum. SUMMARY:The Great Animal Orchestra: Bernie Krause and United Visual Artists
DESCRIPTION:The Peabody Essex Museum and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain are proud to present the North American premiere of The Great Animal Orchestra. \nStep into an immersive audio-visual experience that celebrates our planet’s rich biodiversity. Over the course of nearly fifty years\, Bernie Krause collected more than 5\,000 hours of recordings of natural environments\, including at least 15\,000 terrestrial and marine species from around the world. \nTrained as a musician\, Krause found animal vocalizations in the natural world to be akin to musical harmony and orchestral organization. Krause’s soundscapes reveal that within any ecosystem\, each species has its own acoustic niche and human activities are increasingly silencing these great animal orchestras. United Visual Artists (UVA) worked with Krause to visualize these recordings as animated spectrograms\, which immerse us in the heart of these wild soundscapes. This unique installation makes a plea for preserving the wondrous diversity of the animal world. \nThe Great Animal Orchestra\, a collaboration between Bernie Krause and United Visual Artists\, ws commissioned in 2016 by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain\, and is now part of its permanent collection. The exhibition is organized by the Peabody Essex Museum and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. \nThe exhibition is presented as part of PEM’s Climate + Environment Initiative and is made possible by a generous gift from the Creighton family and the Albert M. Creighton Jr. Fund for Art and Nature. DESCRIPTION:Boston native Julia Chisholm is a singer\, songwriter\, and self-taught musician. Performing from a young age Julia developed her unique artistry through listening to strong female vocalists from Aretha Franklin\, to Mariah Carey\, to Adele. Julia picked up her first instrument — the violin — at age 8\, and later taught herself piano\, drums\, bass\, and guitar — but the voice soon became her favorite instrument. \nIn 2016\, Julia embarked on an exciting opportunity performing with Carnival Cruise Line where she was able to truly develop as a singer and performer. She worked on the ship for two years\, performing nightly for hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. After her stint on the cruise line\, she went on to work at various piano bars\, which provided her with not only performance skills but also the funds needed to begin recording her own music and building her repertoire. \nJulia will play all your favorite songs\, as well as her much-awaited originals. \nFull menu available. SUMMARY:The Great Animal Orchestra: Bernie Krause and United Visual Artists
DESCRIPTION:The Peabody Essex Museum and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain are proud to present the North American premiere of The Great Animal Orchestra. \nStep into an immersive audio-visual experience that celebrates our planet’s rich biodiversity. Over the course of nearly fifty years\, Bernie Krause collected more than 5\,000 hours of recordings of natural environments\, including at least 15\,000 terrestrial and marine species from around the world. \nTrained as a musician\, Krause found animal vocalizations in the natural world to be akin to musical harmony and orchestral organization. Krause’s soundscapes reveal that within any ecosystem\, each species has its own acoustic niche and human activities are increasingly silencing these great animal orchestras. United Visual Artists (UVA) worked with Krause to visualize these recordings as animated spectrograms\, which immerse us in the heart of these wild soundscapes. This unique installation makes a plea for preserving the wondrous diversity of the animal world. \nThe Great Animal Orchestra\, a collaboration between Bernie Krause and United Visual Artists\, ws commissioned in 2016 by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain\, and is now part of its permanent collection. The exhibition is organized by the Peabody Essex Museum and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. \nThe exhibition is presented as part of PEM’s Climate + Environment Initiative and is made possible by a generous gift from the Creighton family and the Albert M. Creighton Jr. Fund for Art and Nature. Works on view in Each/Other will consist of materials including carved wood\, ceramic and fabric sculpture\, photography\, installation works with coconcertina and oil drums\, video-based interpretive elements and documentation pieces to show past performance works by the artists. Together\, Watt and Luger emphasize creativity as a boundless process\, and a catalyst for connection and building greater empathy and understanding between individuals\, neighbors\, communities\, and the world around us.

DESCRIPTION:More than 300 years after the Salem witch trials\, artistic imaginations remain engaged by the personal tragedies and grave injustices of this historic crisis. In this exhibition\, learn more about factors that fueled the hysteria and individuals who rose to defend those unjustly accused and explore two creative responses by artists with ancestral links to the trials. Both projects directly speak to the historical trauma evident in the authentic 17th-century documents and objects on view and provide a powerful contemporary response.\nThe fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s Fall/Winter 2007 collection In Memory of Elizabeth How\, 1692 was based on research into his ancestor Elizabeth How\, one of the first women to be condemned and hanged as a witch in July 1692. McQueen’s work reclaims How’s power and memory from the false accusation that led to her unjust execution. He also mined historic symbols of witchcraft\, paganism\, religious persecution\, and magic as potent inspiration for his fashion design.\nPhotographer Frances F.
