SUMMARY:A Tea for Caroline
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at The House of the Seven Gables on Sunday April 30 th  for a tea to celebrate Gables founder Caroline Emmerton’s birthday. We are also celebrating a generous grant from the Wyeth Foundation for American Art to restore Flight Into Egypt\, a Sophia Peabody Hawthorne painting believed to be from Caroline’s collection. Before her marriage to Nathaniel Hawthorne\, Sophia was one of America’s first professional women artists. She exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum and was known for her oil paintings\, illustrations\, and sculptures. This is the first in a series of conservation projects planned for paintings related to the women of the Gables. \nTicket fees for this event will go towards this conservation program. Come and enjoy the spring gardens and see some of the paintings before enjoying with a brief presentation on Sophia’s life and work with an afternoon tea service catered by Mary Ferreira with teas provided by Jolie Tea Company. \nAll proceeds benefit conservation and preservation programs for the House of Seven Gables. \nPlease register early as there is limited seating available. \n\n\nA Tea for Caroline

SUMMARY:Othello by William Shakespeare at Salem State University
DESCRIPTION:Othello is set during the Ottoman–Venetian War (1570–1573). Othello is a Moorish military commander who was serving as a general of the Venetian army in defense of Cyprus against invasion by Ottoman Turks. He has recently married Desdemona\, a beautiful and wealthy Venetian lady much younger than himself\, against the wishes of her father. Iago is Othello’s malevolent ensign. \nOthello appears to have everything – power\, position\, passion – but soon Iago begins to poison every part of Othello’s life though a campaign of malicious mind games\, slowly decimating Othello’s world. Underlying Shakespeare’s tragedy are tensions of class\, gender and race which build to a crisis point as we watch Othello make choices built on mistruth and fueled by jealousy. \n\n\nFor mature audiences.\n \nTickets are $15 general/$10 seniors/free under 18 and students with ID\nPurchase at www.salemstatetickets.com
