ALL WE CARRY follows a young Honduran couple beginning when they flee their country on foot, ride in cargo trains across Mexico, claim asylum at the U.S. border, and endure months in detention. Once released, the family is given a court date two years away that will determine if they can stay. Denied a work permit and in need of housing, they reach out to a refugee organization and are connected to a local synagogue who offers to sponsor the family and lends them an empty beachfront home. As the family settles into their new house, their story becomes linked to the Jewish people’s long legacy of defending the right to refuge. Magdiel and Mirna identify with the synagogue members as they learn their own family histories of persecution and migration. Over the next two years, the families celebrate marriage, have another child, and grow close to their community.
